Dr. Michael Megaly, MD, FACC, FSCAI, has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma. The appointment, effective February 2024, formalizes his role at the intersection of advanced clinical practice and academic medicine in Oklahoma.

The position places Dr. Megaly within one of Oklahoma's primary academic medical institutions while he continues his clinical practice as an interventional cardiologist.

Academic Medicine Meets High-Risk Intervention

Academic appointments at the faculty level reflect a dual commitment: delivering the highest standard of clinical care while contributing to the education of the next generation of cardiologists.

His subspecialty is among the most technically demanding in cardiovascular medicine: complex high-risk coronary interventions, chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI, surgical turn-down cases, complex peripheral artery disease, and limb salvage. These are procedures that require not only technical skill developed over several cases but also the kind of systematic, evidence-based decision-making that academic training cultivates and refines.

This appointment also reflects Dr. Megaly's existing academic track record. He holds a concurrent appointment as Adjunct Clinical Instructor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix. He has co-authored and collaborated on multiple editions of the Manual of CTO PCI and the Manual of PCI, the field's leading technical references, and has served as invited faculty at major national and international cardiology conferences, including CRT, TCT, SCAI, and EuroCTO.
